Start submissionAuthor Guidelines
The electronic set of documents sent to the editorial office of the journal should be sent to the issuing editor Safonov Ilya Vitalievich by e-mail: npe@mephi.ru
The electronic kit must contain the following materials:
The text of the article should be presented in a structured form containing at least several sections (for example, "Introduction", "Conclusion", "Acknowledgements"). In order to allow automated processing of the list of references by international citation systems (Web of Science, Scopus, etc.), the list of references should be typed only in English, regardless of the main language of the article and designed according to the rules. If the article is written in Russian, the list of references from the new page should be followed by a repetition of the title of the article, the list of authors, the list of addresses of organizations, the corresponding author's e-mail, a brief abstract and a list of keywords translated into English.
A PDF file containing the full text of the article written in Russian or English, drawings placed in the right places (graphs, photographs, diagrams, diagrams, graphs of chemical formulas, etc.), tables and a list of references. The text of the article should contain:
- UDC;
- name;
- list of authors;
- a list of addresses of organizations represented by the authors, with digital indexes placed, allowing to uniquely identify the author with his organization;
- e-mail address of the corresponding author responsible for contacts with representatives of the editorial office and the publishing house on the publication of the article, as well as questions from readers;
- a brief summary;
- a list of keywords reflecting the specifics of the content of the article.
In addition to the PDF file, which is the equivalent of a paper manuscript, it is necessary to submit a file of the appropriate format of the text editor in which the article was typed. It is recommended to use any of the following file formats: *.docx, *.doc, *.rtf or *.tex. For the convenience of the proofreaders, the text should be typed in one column.
Files of drawings, graphs, photographs, diagrams, diagrams, graphs of chemical formulas, etc. should be submitted one for each image. You should not insert images into Microsoft Word and save them in one of its formats. You need to use the "Export" menu item to save images from your program to TIFF, JPEG, EPS, WMF file formats. If the image contains a graph, diagram, diagram obtained by constructing from numerical data, it is recommended to save it in vector format EPS or, less preferably, WMF. If the image contains a photo or other visual information, it is recommended to save it in bitmap formats TIFF or JPEG (without loss of quality) in the highest possible resolution. It should be borne in mind that articles are printed on paper in black and white format, and color images are converted into grayscale during production. Therefore, you should either prepare images in grayscale yourself, or use other methods of unambiguous identification of image objects after discoloration (for example, use different types and shapes of lines, apply signatures 1,2,3 with arrows to objects of identification, etc.). Images of on-line versions of articles are published without processing and with preservation of colors. However, images prepared in grayscale can be processed by the publisher with maximum quality improvement, while color images are not processed and optimized.
A scanned copy of the Examination Report on the possibility of open publication of the article materials. The file must be saved in PDF format.
A scanned copy of the Copyright Transfer Agreement completed by the authors to Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. for the translation of the article into English and publication of the translated article in the attached issues of the journal Physics of Atomic Nuclei (Nos. 9-12). The contract form can be downloaded from the following link (https://www.pleiades.online/pub/agreements/copyright_rus.zip ). The document must be filled in with the data of all co-authors, put signatures in the designated places, scan, save the Contract in PDF format (all pages).
A file containing a list of authors/co-authors indicating their place of work, phone number and e-mail for removing questions about the article.
In order to avoid confusion, it is proposed to name the text files of the article with the surname of the first author.
It is necessary to provide the original of the Examination Report on the possibility of open publication of the materials of the article with the blue seal of the certifying organization to the editorial office. This can be done, for example, by sending a document by mail to the editorial office address: 115409, Moscow, Kashirskoe sh. 31, NRU "MEPhI", editorial office "Nuclear Physics and Engineering", Safonov I.V., or directly to the office in cell No. 318. Send a paper version of the signed Copyright Transfer Agreement no need (it should be kept by the authors). Also, you should not send paper copies of articles.
Attention! The article is considered to have been submitted to the editorial office only after receiving all the materials indicated above.
Instructions for preparing the manuscript for printing
Recommendations on the text editor and its use:
When preparing a manuscript for submission to the editorial office, if possible, use the Microsoft Word for Windows editor of the latest versions. For the convenience of designing the necessary text elements, it is recommended to use a style file. Save the article file in one of the following formats: *.docx, *.doc or *.rtf.
Since all the source materials of the article are submitted exclusively in electronic form, in order to save the author's version of the text layout, it is additionally required to convert the article to *.pdf format. Only the contents of the PDF file are considered as the original of the manuscript. At the same time, the PDF file of the manuscript should contain all the elements of the article: annotation, keywords, text, figures, tables, references, English translation of the title and annotations, and other information. If there are discrepancies between the PDF version of the manuscript and the Word version, the publisher will be guided exclusively by the PDF version.
It is allowed to prepare a manuscript in the LaTeX system. In this case, it is also required to provide a manuscript file containing all the elements of the article in PDF format in addition to all the source files required to compile the resulting document.
Regardless of the text editor used, if the article contains drawings, diagrams, diagrams, images, photographs or other illustrations, each illustration must be saved in a separate file, which are transmitted to the editorial office together with the above article files.
When typing, try not to use macros.
When typing, use standard Windows TrueType fonts (Times New Roman—for text, Symbol—for Greek letters, MathematicalPi2—for handwritten and Gothic characters). The standard font size is 12 pt.
Do not use any other languages of the set except Russian and English. Do not mix Russian and Latin letters in one word.
Do not use more than one space—use paragraph indents and tabs.
Do not end the line by pressing the "Enter" key—use it only to start a new paragraph.
Use the features provided by the text editor — automatic creation of footnotes, automatic hyphenation or automatic prohibition of hyphenation, creation of lists, automatic indentation, etc.
Create tables using the capabilities of Word (Table–>Add a table) or MS Excel. Tables typed manually (using a large number of spaces, without using cells) cannot be used.
Recommendations for typing:
Do not type Cyrillic alphabet with similar Latin letters and vice versa.
Do not type the entire title text in CAPITAL letters, use the appropriate formatting provided in the selected editor.
Decimal digits are typed only through a dot, not through a comma (0.25 instead of 0.25).
Only "quotes" are used, but not "quotes".
The letter "e" is replaced with "e" everywhere, except for surnames and special cases.
Signs *, ‘, ±, single letters of the Greek alphabet, single oblique or bold letters, single variables or symbols that have only an upper or only a lower index, units of measurement, numbers in the text, as well as simple mathematical or chemical formulas (for example, a2+b2=c2, H2SO4) should be typed in text mode without using embedded frameworks (without using Equation, MathType, etc.).
There is always a space between the initials and the surname: A.A. Ivanov (except for listing the authors in the title of the article, where spaces are also placed between the initials—A. A. Ivanov).
In the entire text, except for the date of receipt, all dates are in the form of "number.month.year" are stuffed as follows: 02.05.1991, 26.12.1874, etc.
The dot is not placed after: "UDC", the title of the article, authors, addresses, headings and subheadings, table names, dimensions (s—second, g—gram, min—minute, day—day, degree-degree).
The dot is placed after: footnotes (including in tables), table notes, figure captions, brief annotations, abbreviations (month—month, year—year, million—million, t. pl.—melting point), but not put in subscripts (Tpl — melting point, Tfp — phase transition temperature).
The design of text characters in the Word program is carried out using the FONT dialog box (CTRL–D is called). The symbol * is located on the right side of the keyboard along with the numeric keys, is dialed by the combination ALT0176, ± is dialed by the combination ALT0177.
Intervals of values or compound names are typed after a short dash without spaces ("--" in LaTeX syntax), for example 10-20 W/cm2, or the Mendeleev–Klayperon law. A dash in the usual sense is a long dash ("---" in LaTeX syntax) and is not separated by spaces from neighboring text elements.
Recommendations for the set of formulas:
Remote mathematical formulas (drawn up in a separate line) should be typed in the whole MathType frame. A set of formulas from composite elements (part of the formula is a table, part is a text, part is an embedded frame) is not allowed.
Forced font size setting for individual formula elements typed in MathType is not allowed.
Abbreviations and abbreviations:
Abbreviations of several words are separated by spaces (760 mm Hg; T. pl.; etc. gr.; "ch. d. a."; "os. ch."), with the exception of the most commonly used (etc.; etc.; ie.). In references to the latitude of geographical location—S.sh. (northern latitude), VD (eastern longitude), or the directions of the cardinal directions—SW, not SW and not SW.
Abbreviations or formulas of chemical compounds used as adjectives are written with a hyphen: IR spectroscopy, PE film, LCD state, Na+ shape, OH group, but OH group.
Dimensions:
Dimensions are separated from the digit by a space (100 kPa, 77 K, 10.34(2) A), except degrees, percent, ppm: 90°, 20°C, 50%, 10%. Fractional dimensions: 58 J/mol, 50 m/s2. For complex dimensions, it is allowed to use both negative powers (J mol-1K-1) and brackets {J/(mol K) or J (mol K)-1}, if this makes them easier to read. The main condition is compliance with the uniformity of writing the same. When enumerating, as well as in numerical intervals, the dimension is given only for the last number (18-20 J/mol), with the exception of angular degrees. Degrees Celsius: 5°C, not 5°. The angular degrees never go down: 5°-10°, not 5-10°. The dimensions of variables are written comma—separated (E, kJ/mol), the sub-logarithmic quantities are in square brackets without a comma: ln t [min].
Spaces between words:
References to figures and tables are typed with spaces (Fig. 1, Table. 2 instead of Fig.1, Table 2). Quotation marks and brackets are not separated by spaces from the words enclosed in them: (at 300 K), (a); and not (at 300 K), (a). A space is placed between the sign of the number and paragraph and the number: (No. 1; § 5.65). Numbers with letters in the designations are typed without spaces: (IVd; 1.3.14a; Fig. 1d). In geographical coordinates, latitudes are separated by spaces: 56.5° N; 85.0° E, not 56.5°N; 85.0°E. In geographical names, a space is placed after the dot: the Yenisei River, Novosibirsk.
List of literature:
The list of references should be typed only in English, regardless of the main language of the article and designed according to the following rules:
Initials are placed after the surnames of authors and editors and are not separated by spaces: Ivanov A.A., Petrov B.B. Russian-language surnames are written in Latin letters (transliterated).
- The name of the source is typed in a straight font and separated from the list of authors by a double slash, for example, Pelton M. et al. // Phys. Rev. Lett. 2013. V. 111. P. 244502. Generally accepted English abbreviations of sources should be used. Russian-language names of sources are transliterated with the indication (in Russian) at the end of the link.
- The symbol "No." is used to indicate the issue number of a Russian journal, the entry "No." or "Nos." is used to display issues of foreign journals if the numbers are double (in this case, the range of numbers is indicated by a short dash, not a hyphen). It is also allowed to specify the issue number(s) of the journal together with the designation of the volume number. In this case, the issue number is put in parentheses after the volume number.
- In the names of magazines, the word "Journal" is shortened to J.
- The year, volume, number of the journal, etc. are separated by dots, separated from the corresponding digits by spaces and are given in the following order: 1992. V. 29. No. 2. P. 213.
- The city of publication and the name of the publishing house are indicated by a colon and are given after the year of publication: Borisevich V.D., Borman V.D., Sulaberidze G.A. et al. Physical bases of isotope separation in a gas centrifuge. 2011. Moscow: MEI.
- If a Russian-language source has a translated edition and the referenced article can be found in the translated version, it makes sense to provide a link to the English-language version of the source instead of the Russian-language one.
- The titles of articles published in periodicals should not be given. For preprints, monographs, books, etc. this rule does not apply.
Graphic material:
Both scanned and computer-drawn black-and-white illustrations are accepted for processing electronically. Color illustrations are also accepted, but are automatically converted to grayscale when printed on paper. If the authors are dissatisfied with the results of the transformations, the publishing house does not accept claims. The authors' requests to replace the drawings in such a case may entail material obligations of the authors to reimburse the publisher's expenses for performing repeated work. "On-line" versions of published articles usually contain raw color illustrations (in the author's edition, "as is"). However, even in this case, the authors' requests to replace the drawings at the stage of reading the proofreading may entail material obligations.
When preparing graphic files, the publisher asks you to adhere to the following recommendations:
‒ for halftone photos and line drawings, it is advisable to use the TIFF format, but you can use JPEG and GIF;
‒ for vector drawings and diagrams (drawings prepared in vector graphics programs), it is advisable to use the EPS format.
When preparing files in TIFF format, it is advisable to adhere to the following requirements:
‒ for scanned line drawings—600 dpi (dots per inch);
‒ for scanned halftone drawings and photographs—at least 200 dpi (dots per inch).
Graphic files should be named in such a way that it is clear to which article they belong and what kind of drawing of the article they are in order. Each file must contain one drawing.
Rules for working with electronic proofreading:
To work with electronic proofreading, the authors are sent a PDF file of the article layout by e-mail. Files can be read and edited using Acrobat Reader (version 9 and higher), which can be downloaded for free via the Internet (http://get.adobe.com/reader /).
Comments should be entered directly into the PDF file of the article in the "Comments" mode. It is strictly forbidden to make edits using other programs for editing PDF files, otherwise the author's comments may be lost during automatic processing of PDF files. You cannot change the title of the PDF file of the article and the subject of the e-mail message for the same reason.
Recommendations for making corrections to a PDF file:
Open the PDF file of the article with Adobe Reader. For users of Adobe Reader version 10 and higher:
‒ To make corrections, you can use either the text editing tools (after selecting the desired text fragment), or additional tools located in the Comments menu (top right of the screen) on the Annotations and Hand-drawn Notes tabs.
‒ To use the text editing tools, select the desired text fragment in the file and select the desired text editing option:
‒ Delete text: Press the "Del" key or right-click and select the "Delete Text" tool.
‒ Replace text: Press the "Ins" key or right-click and select the "Replace Text" tool.
‒ Select text: Right-click and select the "Select Text" tool.
‒ If you want to insert text without replacement, then put the cursor in the right place and press the "Ins" key or the right mouse button and select the "Insert text in the cursor place" tool.
‒ If you need to insert or replace text with complex formatting or a specific font, type it in MS Word, copy and paste it into the Add Text tool in the Comments (Hand-drawn Notes) menu. Symbols that cannot be copied in this way can be drawn with the Pencil tool (Draw an arbitrary shape) in the Comments (Drawn Notes) menu or described in words.
For Adobe Reader version 9 users:
‒ If the "Comments and Notes" toolbar is not present on the screen, it can be called for quick access: in the "Tools" menu, select "Customize Toolbars...", in the window that opens, tick the "Comments and Notes" toolbar, and also mark the tools that you are going to use, click "OK."
‒ To use the text editing tools, select the desired text fragment in the file and click the corresponding tool button:
‒ Delete text: the "Striking out text" tool (red color).
‒ Replace Text: Replace Selected Text tool (blue color).
‒ Insert text: the tool "Insert text in the place of the cursor".
‒ If you need to insert or replace text with complex formatting or a specific font, type it in MS Word, copy and paste it into a note or using the "Remote Line" tool. Symbols that cannot be copied in this way can be drawn with the Pencil tool or described in words.
The edit should be clear and visible when visually viewing the page. Do not insert objects on top of existing text.
When editing complex formulas and drawings, refer to the original, use the Pencil tool, or copy and paste as a picture using the Stamp tools.
To use the drawing tools and insert notes, you must first select the tool and then specify a place in the text.
For duplicate fixes, use the search (Ctrl+ F).
It is not recommended to use the "Note" tool to edit text or individual characters, because it is impossible to accurately indicate the characters to be corrected with this tool. The "note" can be used in the margins for notes or at the top of the first page of the article for editing Global (applicable to the entire article).
If there are three or more edits in one line, we recommend crossing out the entire line and typing the correct version in one edit to avoid possible errors when making edits to the completed text.
In exceptional cases, when it is impossible to make an edit to the PDF file of the article (for example, replacing a picture), you can attach the desired file to the letter in the appropriate place using the Attach File tool. Next to the place of the edit, you need to put a comment explaining what is changing for what and for what reason.
